B2B INTENT · BUYER EVIDENCE
Does B2B Intent Data Actually Work, or Is It Mostly Noise?
B2B intent data can be useful, but the signal alone rarely tells sales enough. Activity at a company does not prove that the company is buying, and a topic match does not explain who created the activity or whether that person belongs in your market.
Intent works when you can connect the activity to an identified person, confirm that the company fits your customer pattern and give sales enough context to act. Account-level surges without that evidence create large lists and weak confidence.

THE CORE PROBLEM
Company activity is easy to mistake for company demand.
An account can show activity around a topic for many reasons. An employee may be logging into a payroll system, researching for a school project, comparing vendors for a different department or reading content that has little connection to an active purchase.
Account-level intent often turns many individual actions into one company-level signal. A sales rep sees that the account is “surging” without knowing who acted, what they consumed or whether the person has any role in a purchase.
This is why sellers often lose confidence in intent feeds. The signal creates another research task instead of a clear reason to engage.
THE REQUIRED CONTEXT
Useful intent connects the person, company and subject.
Three questions should be answered before the activity reaches sales:
Who is the person?
Resolve the individual and connect the professional role, company and contact record.
Does the company fit?
Compare the business with the customer pattern your team has approved.
What were they researching?
Preserve the subject and relevant activity so a rep understands the reason for attention.
Who else is involved?
Look for other relevant people and roles connected to the same company.
The people-based intent model begins with the person behind the research. Visitor InSites provides the people-based intent foundation that powers this part of InMarketIQ.
CONTROL THE VOLUME
The challenge is deciding which signals belong to your market.
Even accurate people-based activity can produce more records than a sales team can work. A broad topic may generate millions of actions. The filter has to come from the customer pattern and the approved buying roles.
InMarketIQ applies Customer DNA and detailed company understanding to that volume. Activity from companies outside the market can be removed. Activity from unrelated roles can be held back. The remaining people can reach sales with the evidence attached.
WHAT TO ASK A PROVIDER
Test the output your sellers will receive.
- Does the provider identify the person behind the activity?
- Can the activity be filtered through your approved market?
- Can you see the research subject and company relationship?
- Can several relevant people be connected into a buying group?
- Can the qualified record enter sales, advertising and CRM workflows?

COMMON QUESTIONS
Separating useful B2B intent from noise.
Why does account intent create false positives?
It groups activity at the company level, so routine use, unrelated research and activity from the wrong people can appear relevant.
Is person-level intent enough by itself?
It solves the identity problem, but the person and company still need to match the market your team can serve.
Can intent show that a company is ready to buy?
Intent can show relevant research. Buying readiness requires more context, including fit, role, buying-group activity and the existing CRM relationship.
What should sales receive?
Sales should receive the identified person, company, role, research context and a clear explanation of why the record belongs in the current market.
